Accessory
Leica Soft Release Button, Brass, Blasted Finish
Threaded soft release button in brass with blasted finish — extends the M-body shutter throw and softens the press.
The Soft Release Button is a small threaded brass button that screws into the M body's shutter release. Brass with a blasted finish — a matte, slightly textured surface that takes patina with use. The button extends the shutter throw upward by a few millimetres, which softens the press and makes very long exposures and handheld slow-shutter work less jarring.
Position in the lineup
The Soft Release Button is the accessory that signals familiarity with M-system photography rather than ownership of a Leica body. Within Leica's catalog it ships in multiple finishes — chrome, anodized aluminum, brass — at the same price; the brass blasted finish is the version that ages most visibly. It threads into every modern M body with a threaded release, and into many other cameras that share the same cable-release thread (Fujifilm X-Pro and X100 series among them).
