Leica Noctivid 8x42 Green
Flagship 8x42 binocular with Schott HT glass and fluoride-rich lenses — Leica's reference observation binocular.
The Noctivid 8x42 is Leica's flagship observation binocular. Schott HT high-transmission glass and fluoride-rich lenses deliver edge-to-edge resolution and the colour fidelity that puts Noctivid alongside Swarovski EL and Zeiss SF in the reference-grade tier. The open-bridge magnesium body sits in the hand more naturally than the closed-bridge designs of older Leica binoculars; AquaDura coatings on the outer lens surfaces shed water and resist fingerprints. The olive green finish is the photographic-traveller variant — same optics as the standard black, finish chosen to disappear in landscape work.
Position in the lineup
The Noctivid 8x42 is for someone who wants Leica's reference observation binocular at the canonical 8x42 magnification — 8x is the magnification where handheld stability and field of view balance; 42mm is the objective lens diameter that gathers enough light for late-evening and forest-floor observation. Within Leica's Sport Optics line it sits at the top, alongside the Ultravid HD-Plus (older flagship still in production) and above the Trinovid HD (mid-tier flagship-grade). The price difference between Noctivid and Trinovid HD is roughly threefold; the optical difference is most visible at the edges of the field, in the lowest light, and against the highest-contrast subjects.
