GearUP is a network optimization service for online games. It intercepts game packets at the device level and routes them through GearUP's private network of server nodes, picking the shortest and least-congested path to whichever game server you're connecting to and re-routing in real time if a node slows down. The service supports over 1,000 games across Windows, iOS, Android, PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, Steam Deck, and Oculus Quest. Console support runs through HYPEREV, a hardware gaming router that sits between modem and console and applies the same optimization at the network level — useful because console operating systems don't allow third-party booster apps directly.

The detail worth naming is when this works and when it doesn't. GearUP doesn't speed up your internet — it picks better paths through the network. If your ISP routes traffic to game servers efficiently and your connection is stable, the improvement will be marginal at best. If you're playing on servers in another region, dealing with congested ISP peering, or running into late-night routing issues, the improvement is measurable — independent tests have shown ping reductions from 110ms to 68ms on cross-region matches. The category around game boosters is mostly noise; GearUP is one of the few products that earns the description it's marketed under. Whether the subscription is worth it depends entirely on whether the connection has the problems it's built to solve.
