The Air+ is the Air's smart tech in an all-wood enclosure. Same 33-centimetre footprint, same chip-based full piece recognition, same connectivity — the difference is the materials. Wooden board, wooden pieces, LEDs hidden under the surface rather than visible at the corner of each square. The pieces from Air, Air+, and Pro are interchangeable, so an Air owner upgrading to Air+ keeps their existing piece set.
Position in the lineup
The Air+ is the portable board for buyers who want wood. It's the same form factor as the Air and the Pro's smart features without the Pro's tournament-size footprint. Hidden LEDs are an aesthetic choice — the board reads as a regular wooden chessboard at rest.
